#IMSS.- At the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) there are more than 98 thousand doctors who, with responsibility and commitment, form part of the institutional multidisciplinary team with the objective of providing quality, humanistic and timely care in order to guarantee the health of the country’s beneficiaries.
The head of the Medical Area of the Coordination of Special Health Projects, Dr. Jorge Loría Castellanos, indicated that the Medical staff in all its categories works in the 25 High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE), 255 Second Level care units and more than 1,500 First Level units.
He explained that 51 percent are female doctors and 49 percent are male doctors, this is reflected by the number of graduates that the medical schools currently have, where more women than men enroll.
Loría Castellanos said that the Institute is committed to continuous training, which is why there are annual in-person, online, virtual, seminar and simulation courses, and around 30 percent of the medical staff takes these training courses, which continually update them.
She clarified that of the total number of doctors who are part of the Social Security, 4,600 work in the IMSS-Bienestar Unit in all its units, where they provide care to patients in the most marginalized areas of the country.
