Martí Batres stresses the importance of pharmacovigilance to protect the population’s health / @ISSSTE_mx >>>

#ISSSTE.- Martí Batres Guadarrama, Director General of the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste), participated in the inauguration of the National Pharmacovigilance Meeting, organized by the Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios (Cofepris), where he highlighted the importance of this activity to protect the health of the population.

“For us, at Issste, it is about guaranteeing the wellbeing of workers, pensioners, retirees, family members and rightful claimants, with principles of honesty, vigilance, legality, transparency, for the safety and effectiveness of medicines and vaccines (…) The responsibility of the States is to serve, avoid or stop social pain and protect the health of all human beings,” he shared.

In the presence of the head of Cofepris, Armida Zúñiga Estrada, and the International Consultant of the Health Organization (PAHO) Mexico, Pamela Virginia Milla Nanjarí, the Director General considered it essential to have good technology and trained personnel in this discipline to improve people’s health.

“It is important to improve technology, equipment for the conservation of medicines and vaccines, to have professionally trained pharmaceutical personnel, to train personnel involved in pharmacovigilance activities and, above all, to have good, rapid communication and information, both within and outside the health system,” he added.

Before representatives from Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Dominican Republic and Belize, Martí Batres pointed out the need to strengthen regional cooperation in pharmacovigilance.
