#Tecámac, #Edoméx.- Senator Mariela Gutiérrez Escalante indicated that traffic accidents are considered a public health problem, since the number of people who die in road accidents is compared to the number of people who die from terminal diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases, among others.
She indicated that, according to the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS), (quoted by activists in favor of prevention), in 2023, around 40 thousand deaths were reported due to traffic accidents in Mexico and that one of the most affected groups are young people.
The President of the Senate’s Metropolitan Areas Commission recalled that, due to the seriousness of the issue, on December 1, 2005, the UN General Assembly declared the third Sunday of the month of November of each year as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Accident Victims.
The Senator of Morena emphasized that this is a tribute to the thousands of people who have been victims of road accidents and to show solidarity with their families.
Mariela Gutiérrez pointed out that it is necessary to develop actions aimed at having better safe and integral systems that allow us to improve the regulatory and normative frameworks and that are harmonized throughout the country.
In order to have an infrastructure and to mark safe speeds; safe users and vehicles, as well as pre-hospital care for the victims, emphasized the mexiquense.
Gutiérrez Escalante added that it is considered that, worldwide, road traffic collisions (in round numbers) cause almost 1.3 million deaths and an estimated 50 million traumatisms every year, which makes them the main cause of death of children and young people worldwide.
