#SRE.- Violence against women is simply unacceptable, said Chancellor Juan Ramón de la Fuente in his message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Internationally, according to the latest report of the United Nations Secretary General, at least 700 million women and girls have been victims of physical or sexual violence. “The problem is of this magnitude; the challenge is of this magnitude; and the response we give to combat this unacceptable form of violence is of this magnitude,” he said at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Chancellor de la Fuente recalled the women who have been victims of violence, in any of its expressions, and made it clear that the legacy of these women will not be in vain: in this sense, he recalled the historical debt that the Mexican State has with them, a debt that has to be paid.

She stressed that this year, the International Day takes on special relevance, since today Mexico is presided over and led by a woman, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who is deeply committed to the cause of women and who has been clear, not only in discourse, but with concrete actions that strengthen the capacity of the Mexican State to combat these types of injustices and inequities.

She announced that the Foreign Ministry is working together with the new Women’s Secretariat to rigorously observe all legal and ethical measures to prevent any type of violence against women and to eliminate impunity.
