#GobiernoDeMéxico.- The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced that after a good agreement with the labor and business sector, the minimum wage by 2025 will have a 12 percent increase throughout the country, as it will increase from 248.93 to 278.80 pesos per day in the General Minimum Wage Zone and in the Northern Border Free Zone it will go from 374.89 to 419.88 pesos per day, thus advancing towards the goal that each worker can access 2.5 times the basic food basket by 2030.
“That means that next year the monthly minimum wage, going, multiplying it by 30 average days, per month is 8 thousand 364; it goes from 7 thousand 467 to 8 thousand 364, and on the border to 12 thousand 596 pesos. This is more than three times what we have estimated for inflation next year”, he explained during the morning conference ‘Las mañaneras del pueblo’.
He recalled that during the neoliberal period, Mexico was boasted abroad for having “cheap labor”, which demonstrated the dehumanization of those governments; however, with the arrival of the Fourth Transformation of public life, Mexican workers are recognized as the best in the world, and the country as a nation with great natural resources and with great cultural wealth.
“There was an impoverishment of workers in Mexico; from 1992 to 2018 the minimum wage remained practically constant in real terms. With President Andrés Manuel López Obrador it had a significant increase. And our goal is to reach 2.5 basic baskets, that is, that a minimum wage, a worker can have 2.5 basic baskets,” he said.
He also pointed out that unemployment in the country is at its lowest level, according to the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
