#Economy.- In what represents the third action of Operation Clean Up in less than three weeks, the Ministry of Economy and the Government of the State of Coahuila took action today in Saltillo against contraband and piracy.

After receiving several complaints about the sale of goods of illegal origin, the federal Ministry of Economy, in coordination with the Directorate of Foreign Trade, Civil Protection and State Police, undertook an operation to check merchandise in the Shunfeng shopping center, whose administrators could not prove the legal introduction into the country of merchandise from Asia.

As of 5:00 p.m., after having searched a quarter of the store, federal and state authorities had seized more than 35 thousand pieces of merchandise.

Today’s operation in Saltillo is the third action that the Ministry of Economy, with the support of state governments, has undertaken against smuggling and piracy. Previously, Operation Cleanup took place in Mexico City and Hermosillo.

The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, explained that Operativo Limpieza will be carried out throughout the country and is part of the actions that the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum is carrying out to protect the textile, footwear and toy industries, among others, as well as the hundreds of thousands of jobs they generate. In the last year and a half alone, the textile industry in Mexico has lost more than 70 thousand jobs as a result of the introduction of illegal merchandise.
