#GobiernoDeMéxico.- As part of Plan Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the creation of the new National Law to Eliminate Red Tape and Corruption, which aims to reduce by half the number of formalities, requirements and resolution time and digitize at least 80 percent to make life easier for citizens.
“The objective is to reduce paperwork and, by reducing paperwork, we also eliminate any possibility of corruption between a window and the citizen or person. So, we are going to call it: ‘National Law to Eliminate Paperwork and Corruption’. And it is a national law because it includes: Federation, states and municipalities”, he explained during the morning conference: ‘Las mañaneras del pueblo’.
He specified that with this new law, Mexicans who have access to the Internet will be able to carry out most of the procedures online, while those who go directly to the counters will clearly know the documents they need, when their appointment is and when they will be given a resolution.
“If a small business wants to register, they don’t have to go through 10,000 procedures to register. If they want to be a government supplier, they should be reduced to the minimum so that they can check in a database if they are registered with a problem or not, that they comply with the basics and they are registered. So, that is what the law is about: eliminating bureaucratic procedures (…) it eliminates the corruption that may still remain in the windows between the citizen and the person”, he added.
The head of the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ATDT), José Antonio Peña Merino, explained that in order to issue the National Law to Eliminate Bureaucratic Procedures and Corruption, articles 25 and 73 of the Constitution will have to be reformed and, once it is approved by the Congress and the local congresses, the initiative that abrogates the General Law for Regulatory Improvement will be presented.
