ISSSTE General Hospital in Zacatecas detects breast cancer with high-specialty techniques / @ISSSTE_mx >>>
#ISSSTE.- The Zacatecas General Hospital of the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE), headed by General Director Martí Batres Guadarrama, performs accurate and early diagnosis of breast cancer through the stereotactic biopsy procedure, a highly specialized surgical technique that allows the removal of microcalcifications previously detected by mastography.
According to Gerardo Bonilla Romo, a radiologist specializing in diagnostic and interventional breast imaging, the treatment is performed with the support of special equipment, consisting of complex software and a robotic arm with a needle that makes it possible to accurately reach the area where the sample is located, which, once extracted, is sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Bonilla Romo pointed out that the stereotactic biopsy avoids women having to undergo surgery and, at the same time, face its consequences: recovery and, mainly, scars, since with this treatment an incision of less than five millimeters is made.
In addition, he acknowledged that the accuracy obtained with this type of biopsy is not achieved with ultrasound, nor with other imaging methods.
He informed that in the event of presenting a benign nodule that generates pain, patients are treated at the ISSSTE General Hospital in Zacatecas with a state-of-the-art option, known as vacuum aspiration biopsy, a procedure that consists of completely removing the nodules and which, being ambulatory and minimally invasive, leaves no marks on the body.
