#SEP.- The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, met with representatives of the National Confederation of University Workers (CONTU), to whom he asked to contribute to the increase of 330 thousand places in Higher Education coverage, a goal established in commitment 32 of the 100 of the 2nd Floor of the Transformation, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
From the Ibero-American Hall of the historic headquarters of the SEP, Delgado Carrillo affirmed that there will always be openness to dialogue with all the figures of the education sector, with the purpose of improving education in the country.
For this reason, he invited the members of CONTU to build “a balanced agenda between the interests of the workers and the direction of education. We must always seek this balance through dialogue and respect for workers’ labor rights.
In this framework, he highlighted that, with the efforts of institutions such as the Rosario Castellanos National University, the University of Health, the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the National Technological of Mexico (TecNM) and the technological and polytechnic universities, it is sought to reach a coverage of 55 percent at this educational level.
“I believe it is possible to increase the number of spaces, which is the great goal of the President of Mexico, making an extraordinary effort this year,” he said during the working meeting with the secretary general of CONTU, José Enrique Levet Gorozpe, and union representatives of university workers.
Accompanied by the Undersecretary of Higher Education, Carmen Enedina Rodríguez Armenta, the head of the SEP pointed out that it is necessary to reinforce vocational guidance from High School to Higher Education. He emphasized the importance of adapting the curricular offer to the economic demand, strengthening the principles of the New Mexican School (NEM).
He added that Higher Education must be in tune with the Middle Higher level; however, he clarified that the strategy of the President of Mexico encompasses all educational levels, since it is not possible to talk about Basic Education without also connecting it with Higher Education.
