#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo called on young Mexicans and Americans to participate in the binational music contest Mexico sings for peace and against addictions, -whose inscriptions will be from April 28 to May 30, 2025- and which has two objectives: to promote Mexican music without contents that make apology to violence or drugs; and, as part of Plan Mexico, to bring to the country part of the creative industry of the United States.
«To present this great festival Mexico sings and enchants, which has two objectives: One, as we had informed, to promote Mexican music without contents that make apology of violence or drugs. Therefore, it is part of our great campaign for peace and against addictions, and also to promote the creative activity of young Mexicans on this side of the border, our territory, and on the other side, to promote Mexican music on both sides of the border.
«And the second objective is, within Plan Mexico, also to bring part of the creative industry that exists in the United States to our country to promote this activity that sometimes seems to be very small, but it is very large, and generates many jobs in the United States and we want much of that to come to our country as well. It is an initiative of both sides of the border with businessmen, businesswomen, artists, very diverse,» he said.
In the morning conference: “La mañanera del pueblo”, he explained that the binational contest Mexico sings for peace and against addictions will be broadcasted by public media and arose with the idea of building a different narrative to the music that advocates violence and to generate an identity linked to art, culture, sports and access to rights such as education and employment. In addition, it seeks to have choirs in all public schools in Mexico to encourage music and singing.
«We are changing the reality of young people by giving them access to all rights, and we will continue to do so, but we also want there to be a different narrative. This false idea that joining a criminal group is a life option; I have always said it: ‘it is not a life option, it is a death option’,» he added.
He explained that all young people between the ages of 18 and 34 who want to participate with songs of any genre, including those of native peoples, can register through the web page https://www.mexicocanta.gob.mx/ and, subsequently, a municipal and state selection will be made, whose selected artists will perform live in the different states, and the grand finale will be on October 5 in Durango.
The Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, pointed out that the Mexico Sings for Peace and Against Addictions contest is a historic alliance between the government and the private sector, thanks to the fact that its contents will be professionalized with the support of the Mexican Music Council (CMM).
