The Mexican government, through the Ministries of Welfare and Health, announces that it has launched the House-to-House Health program, which will provide comprehensive and regular medical care to older adults and people with disabilities through home visits.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that, starting May 2, 19,300 hired health workers will visit the 8,191,351 older adults and people with disabilities already registered by the Ministry of Welfare.

“They’ll carry a backpack with wheels, where they carry their stethoscopes to measure blood pressure, blood sugar, and whatever the doctors determine. They’ll carry equipment. Then, they’ll compile the person’s medical records. They’ll be in contact with doctors from the Ministry of Health, so that if they find someone has high blood pressure, they can be given medication in coordination with the doctors. If they see that the pressure is very high, they’ll take them to the health center so they can continue the medication, if necessary, and prevent them from reaching more extreme conditions,” he explained during the morning press conference, “Las mañaneras del pueblo” (The People’s Morning Conference).

He explained that health personnel were hired based on the area where they live so they wouldn’t have to travel far and get to know their community. He also specified that home visits will be monthly or bimonthly depending on the health status of the elderly and people with disabilities, while medical brigades will be sent to remote areas.

He specified that older adults and people with disabilities will be able to obtain their prescribed medications at their designated Health Centers of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), and IMSS Bienestar. Additionally, several treatments, particularly for chronic illnesses, will be available at Bienestar Stores, Bienestar Banks, or at locations near their homes.
