#SICT.– The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), headed by Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, reports that with the completion of the modernization and expansion of the Tuxtla Gutiérrez–San Cristóbal de las Casas highway, one million residents of six municipalities and 50 communities in Chiapas will directly benefit.

The project, completed in December of last year, consisted of expanding a 29.2-kilometer stretch to three lanes, which has improved road safety and reduced travel times; more than 12,000 vehicles travel on this highway daily.

The actions carried out included:

  • Widening of seven underpasses
  • Modernization of three braking ramps, with the installation of lighting and video surveillance over more than 300 meters
  • Widening of four bridges
  • Handling of more than 150,000 cubic meters of material on the slopes

The construction involved 400 workers, using more than 13,000 cubic meters of hydraulic concrete, 39,000 cubic meters of asphalt pavement, and 913 tons of steel. The project also created 4,234 direct jobs.
