#GobiernoDeMéxico.- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo championed the start of construction of the Housing for Well-being program in Quintana Roo, where 22,000 homes will be built during her six-year term: 12,000 through the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) and 10,000 through the National Housing Commission (Conavi), with an investment of 13.2 billion pesos (mdp). The goal is to create decent spaces that realize the humanist philosophy of «for the good of all, the poor first.»

“What we are building is a Welfare State, so that the people of Mexico have access to the bare minimum, based on their salary, with justice. So that no matter if you earn the minimum wage, your son or daughter can study at a good university. No matter if you earn the minimum wage, you can have a home for your family. No matter if you are in the informal economy, you can have access to everything you need. That is why our government is a Welfare Government; we call this the Fourth Transformation of Public Life in Mexico.”

This was stated by the Chief Executive after leading the start of construction of the first 5,632 homes managed by Infonavit: 5,008 in the municipality of Benito Juárez and 624 to be built in Chetumal.

She emphasized that, contrary to what happened during the neoliberal period, the loans granted are for homes with decent spaces of 60 square meters, with the goal of ensuring families can live well.

“We are focusing on workers, women workers who earn one or two minimum wages, that is, those who earn the least; because they earn the minimum wage, and then credit was very low, and they couldn’t afford housing. No, housing in Mexico is now a right of the Mexican people; it’s not a commodity or a privilege,” he added.

He recalled that within the framework of Plan Mexico, the six-year housing construction goal has increased to 1.1 million homes nationwide. In addition, loans for home improvements will be granted, and a loan freeze program is being implemented, among other benefits, by Infonavit and the Housing Fund of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (FOVISSSTE).
