#GobiernoDeMéxico.- At the morning press conference, «The People’s Morning Conference,» led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Paco Ignacio Taibo II, Director General of the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE), announced that they are preparing to launch the 25 for the 25th collection later this year. The collection aims to provide 2.5 million books to young people in Latin America, particularly in Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, Chile, Paraguay, Guatemala, and Mexico.

«We are coordinating with publishers and state governments to launch these 2.5 million books simultaneously by the end of this year. It is the largest reading promotion project, and it has a very clear objective: to encourage young people and adolescents to read for pleasure, to discover the joy of reading,» he explained.

He explained that it is a diverse collection that includes texts from the so-called «Latin American boom» and later, including authors such as Gabriel García Márquez; Mario Benedetti; Eduardo Galeano; Piedad Bonnett, as well as Mexican writers such as Adela Fernández.

The FCE’s general director highlighted that from 2019 to date, the FCE has produced 21 million books and sold 24 million in Mexico, both from its own books and those of other publishers. Additionally, 6 million books have been sold abroad during this same period. He added that the FCE promoted the existence of a historical catalog of 15,000 titles; it created Vientos del Pueblo, which produced books at affordable prices between 11 and 20 pesos, of which 3 million copies have already been sold.

He also said that the Popular Collection was launched, publishing 207 titles in six years, and distributing and selling 792 copies for between 100 and 200 pesos. New literary genres have been incorporated, such as graphic novels, historical novels, science fiction, detective fiction, and fantasy, among others.
