Secretary Ebrard’s participation in the People’s Morning Conference / @SE_mx >>>

#SE.- MARCELO EBRARD CASAUBON, SECRETARY OF ECONOMY: With your permission, Madam President. Good morning.

I’ll briefly address the investment first, which you will now explain.

It’s important to note that these investment announcements are taking place in the midst of a world with the uncertainty we face today. The fact that companies are deciding to invest in Mexico has added value. It means they see that Mexico’s future will be positive and promising.

If not, they wouldn’t do it. They’ll tell you themselves.

It’s a 30 billion peso investment by Unilever, a company that has had a presence in Mexico for many years, and they will invest in several states across the country.

This is in line with the objectives we have set in Plan Mexico. That’s why the President asked me to invite you here today. Jobs will also be added, they will tell us now, new jobs, new investments, and they support Plan Mexico and what has been proposed to help our country move forward.

There were those who hoped that today we would be in a different scenario, that we would be in a negative scenario, but no. There you have the investment that will be announced today, and soon there will be additional ones.

Regarding auto parts, I would say that one of President Sheinbaum’s main concerns has been that Mexican auto parts be treated as provided for in our treaty with the United States and Canada.

This means that tariffs and duties not be imposed on them, and that we can continue exporting. It is a very large industry in our country; it is where we have the highest national content.

So, I think it’s an important step forward for our country, as the President already mentioned. Instructions were published today for U.S. customs authorities, and they ratify, make explicit, and emphasize that auto parts from Mexico, as well as those from Canada, are treated under our Treaty and therefore do not pay tariffs. They will be considered part of, as if they were also from the United States, for the discounts or compensations that the automotive industry will apply in the coming weeks.

That’s essentially what we saw yesterday.

I think it’s certainly good news for our country and another step forward.

We’re making progress. Thank you very much, President.
