#IMSS.- The High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) of the Cardiology Hospital of the National Medical Center (CMN) Siglo XXI, of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), received the international Chest Pain Center certification granted by the American Heart Association, accrediting it as a Center of Excellence in the management of chest pain and the implementation of the national Infarction Code protocol.
The director of the UMAE, Dr. Guillermo Saturno Chiu, explained that with this achievement, the Third Level unit becomes the first public hospital in Mexico and Latin America to obtain this distinction, a reflection of its leadership in the management of cardiac conditions.
“We are proud to receive this international certification, which reflects the dedication of our entire team and reaffirms our commitment to providing excellent cardiovascular care to our patients,” he emphasized.
He explained that this certification was granted after a rigorous evaluation process in which outstanding merits were demonstrated, including the successful implementation of the national Infarction Code protocol and the coordinated work between the Emergency Department, Cardiology, and Intensive Care Units.
During the evaluation process, members of the American Heart Association highlighted the effectiveness of the IMSS Infarction Code, which ensures that a heart attack patient receives diagnosis and treatment (such as primary angioplasty) in the shortest possible time, significantly increasing the chances of survival and recovery.
Dr. Saturno Chiu commented that the Cardiology Hospital’s track record of continuous improvement was fundamental to achieving this level of excellence. In recent years, the American Heart Association awarded this unit Bronze and Silver recognitions for maintaining international quality standards in heart attack treatment for six months and one year, respectively.
