#GobiernoDeMéxico.- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that the Second Floor of the Fourth Transformation is implementing a humanistic healthcare system through the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), which will increase its surgical capacity; the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), which will implement a Dignified Treatment Strategy; and the IMSS Bienestar (IMSS Welfare), with the formation of regional teams, thereby improving care for Mexicans who visit health centers and hospitals throughout the country.
“What we have today is much better than Seguro Popular, which was pure corruption. It’s much better, and it will improve every day; it’s what we’re presenting now. When have you heard of a Dignified Treatment program at ISSSTE, or a program that would allow for more surgeries at the IMSS, or an IMSS Bienestar system that has a regional body providing services from the ground up? So, what we’re building now, which comes from President López Obrador’s administration, is much better than that Seguro Popular scheme,” he stated during the morning press conference, “Las mañaneras del pueblo” (The People’s Morning Conferences).
He recalled that in the states that have not yet joined the IMSS Bienestar scheme, public institutions continue to charge for services, despite the fact that access to healthcare must be free, as it is established as a right in the Political Constitution. “We will always love, embrace, and support families,” he added. IMSS Director Zoé Robledo Aburto reported that this year they aim to perform 2,014,801 surgeries, of which 500,000 have already been performed. To this end, more surgical nurses will be hired; surgeries will be scheduled seven days a week; surgical instruments will be purchased and sterilizers will be renewed; 931 surgical supplies and surgical gowns will be fully stocked; urgent surgeries will be prioritized based on medical criteria; procedures and processes will be simplified; the referral process between hospitals will be streamlined; equipment for preoperative studies will be purchased and maintained; and a Single Needs Registry (RUN) will be implemented for the immediate resolution of administrative matters.
