#SRE.- The Secretariat for Women and the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs held a Forum with Civil Society Organizations and Academia, within the framework of the presentation of Mexico’s Tenth Periodic Report to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), which took place on May 28 and 29.
This event contributed to a frank and constructive dialogue between the Government of Mexico, civil society organizations (CSOs), and academia, regarding the topics addressed in Mexico’s Tenth Periodic Report, which was submitted to the CEDAW Committee in September 2024 and will be presented to that body on June 17 and 18, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Report highlights progress such as the institutionalization of the gender perspective through the implementation of the National Policy for Equality between Women and Men, among other achievements in terms of substantive equality.
The event was inaugurated by Ingrid Gómez, Undersecretary for the Right to a Life Free from Violence of the Secretariat for Women; Jennifer Feller Enríquez, Director General of Human Rights and Democracy of the Undersecretariat for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Lourdes Colinas, National Program Officer for UN Women Mexico.
The forum, held at the headquarters of both hosting institutions, brought together more than 100 representatives of civil society organizations, academics, and officials from institutions that comprise the National Commission for Monitoring the Observations of the CEDAW Committee.
The seven roundtable discussions fostered substantive exchanges that allowed for the recognition of progress, identification of persistent challenges, and formulation of recommendations on the right to education, sexual and reproductive health, labor equality, structural issues, access to justice, the situation of women deprived of liberty, and gender-based violence.
This forum reaffirms the Mexican government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and cross-sector collaboration to fulfill its international obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
