«Chacuacos, Fumarolas de Agua» activities kick off at the former Gunpowder Factory in the Fourth Section of Chapultepec / @cultura_mx >>>

#SecretaríaDeCultura, #México.- The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, through the General Directorate of Cultural Linkage, the Creation System and the National Coordination of Children’s Cultural Development – Wings and Roots, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment (Sedema) of the Government of Mexico City, opens to the public the “Chacuacos, fumaroles de agua” Toy Library, in Building “G” of the Former Gunpowder Factory in the Fourth Section of Chapultepec Forest.

During the kick-off event, today Saturday, July 21, 2025, the Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, highlighted the importance of an emblematic place now being transformed into an open play space for children and youth.

“Just a few days ago the World Day of Play was commemorated and it seemed very important to us that, within the framework of that date, value was given to these play spaces, and that the enclosure, part of the ‘Chapultepec, Nature and Culture’ project, could be inaugurated.”

He stressed the importance that “a place that was once dedicated to the production of gunpowder and explosives is now a meeting point for the imagination and development of babies, children and young people; it is truly an achievement that would not be possible without inter-institutional collaboration”.

The event was attended by the Undersecretary of Cultural Development, Marina Núñez Bespalova, and the head of Alas y Raíces, Guillermina Pérez, as well as the General Director of the System of Natural Protected Areas and Areas of Environmental Value, César Sánchez Ibarra, among others.
