#Tlalnepantla, #StateOfMexico.- With a clear focus on innovation and the environment, young people from Tlalnepantla presented their proposals to combat climate change during the «Climathon Tlalnepantla 2025» event. This initiative, organized in collaboration with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ) and the Municipal Government, led by Mayor Raciel Pérez Cruz, sought to promote sustainable solutions to the region’s problems. The event provided participants with a platform to develop their ideas and contribute to the well-being of the planet, highlighting the importance of youth talent in the pursuit of a greener future.
Alexa Reyes Nader, head of the Tlalnepantla Tourism Coordination, explained that the proposals focused on two key challenges for the area: promoting the circular economy and decarbonizing industry. The latter is especially relevant for the municipality due to its industrial concentration and high greenhouse gas emissions. The event, held at the Instituto Tecnológico de Tlalnepantla (ITTLA), Eastern Campus, included expert mentoring, allowing participants to refine their projects for the final evaluation.

A local team won first place with an innovative proposal for waste separation in the Río de los Remedios. This project not only received a cash prize but also the opportunity to advance to the next stage of the Catalist initiative, where they could access seed capital of up to €15,000 for their development. According to Alexa Reyes, the quality of the ideas presented was remarkable, such as that of a group of students from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (National Polytechnic Institute), who proposed the use of industrial cleaning products based on bionanotechnology to reduce water and air pollution.
The celebration of Climate 2025 in Tlalnepantla was decided due to the municipality’s commitment to combating polluting emissions and protecting the environment. The Environmental Sustainability Directorate was present to monitor the most promising projects, with the aim of generating a pool of talent that can turn their ideas into concrete actions. This collaboration between authorities, the private sector, and citizens underscores the vision of a more sustainable future, where young people’s proposals become real solutions for communities.
