#Acapulco, #Guerrero.- Mayor Abelina López Rodríguez, along with Rocío Bárcena Molina, Undersecretary of Peacebuilding of the Ministry of the Interior, led the First Peace Meeting in the Old City Hall Auditorium. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both bodies to strengthen the social fabric and build safe environments for all families in the municipality. This event underscores the importance of community and territorial work as an essential pillar for building the long-awaited peace.
In her welcoming address, Mayor López Rodríguez emphasized that the formation of peace committees is a tangible promise to improve living conditions in the neighborhoods, understanding peace «as something that also comes from the soul» and is vital «for girls and boys to have a healthy environment.» She added that this collective effort, aimed at creating a «safer, more dignified, and humane» environment, has the support of the President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The local leader recalled the federal president’s gesture in choosing Acapulco as her first destination after taking office.
For her part, Undersecretary Rocío Bárcena Molina praised the work of the local administration and acknowledged the remarkable resilience that characterizes the city and its inhabitants. The federal official stated that this first meeting is not merely a ceremonial event, but rather «an act of hope and shared responsibility.» Addressing the attendees, Bárcena Molina said: «Thank you, Abelina, because you put your heart into this city. Today we are performing an act of honor and commitment; without you, the committees, there would be no continuity.»
Finally, the federal official offered a detailed review of government actions in the municipality, specifying that 12 priority neighborhoods have been addressed, directly benefiting 16 percent of the population. This translates to the provision of services to 18,515 homes. In addition, the Undersecretariat has held a total of 91 fairs since last November, inviting citizens to access a wide range of 11 services and 21 federal programs.
