#CuautitlánIzcalli#StateOfMexico.- In a vibrant spectacle of Oaxacan colour, flavour, and tradition, Mayor Daniel Serrano officially opened the Guelaguetza 2025, a key feature of the «Presencia de Oaxaca» exhibition. This eagerly anticipated event is now open to the public on the Municipal Esplanade and will run until Sunday, 19 October. «Today, we formally inaugurate the presence of the Guelaguetza of Oaxaca in our municipality. In Cuautitlán Izcalli, we are incredibly proud of our heritage, and this space offers a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy a pleasant time together, as we consistently promote,» the Mayor declared. The opening ceremony successfully transformed the town centre into a hub of cultural celebration for the community.

The Mayor took a moment to commend the profound effort of the Oaxacan artisans who travelled to Izcalli to bring their distinctive crafts and produce closer to the local community. Daniel Serrano extended a warm invitation to all citizens, encouraging them to fully immerse themselves in the exhibition. Here, they can not only appreciate the handiwork but also enjoy the rich, authentic sounds and dances that characterise Oaxacan regional culture. The event underscores a vital commitment to showcasing Mexico’s diverse regional identity right in the heart of the municipality, fostering a spirit of appreciation and unity.

Serrano expressed sincere gratitude to the Patronato Cultural Oaxaqueño A.C., led by its President, Enrique Estefan, for their invaluable contribution. Their work successfully brought a meaningful slice of Oaxacan culture and tradition to the municipality «without incurring any expense for the local government.» This collaborative partnership highlights a model of cultural promotion based on shared commitment and community enrichment. The Ruta de las Calendas Oaxaqueñas preceded the expo’s official launch, starting in Cumbria, proceeding along Primero de Mayo Avenue, and culminating in a spectacular, colourful, and rhythmic arrival at the Esplanade.

Once on the Esplanade, attendees were treated to the main event: the Guelaguetza itself, a festival that brings together the traditions of the state’s eight distinct regions. The «Presencia de Oaxaca» exhibition in Cuautitlán Izcalli features the work of approximately 75 artisans, who are offering a wide variety of goods. These include alebrijes, black pottery, textiles, and other unique crafts, alongside an impressive gastronomic display. Delicacies such as tlayudas, mole, grasshoppers (chapulines), traditional cheese, artisan ice creams, and mezcal are available for tasting.

The Mayor was joined at the inaugural event by a number of distinguished municipal officials, reinforcing the administration’s support for the cultural initiative. These attendees included the First Trustee, María del Carmen Barboza, and Council members Patricia Madrigal, Elieth Casique, and Fabián Enríquez. Their presence marked the event as an officially endorsed celebration of Mexican heritage and community. The exhibition promises a rich, immersive experience for all Izcalli residents, honouring the deep connection between states through shared cultural appreciation.
