#MinistryOfCommunicationsAndTransportation#México.- The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), has announced a significant recovery in connectivity for communities affected by the recent extraordinary rainfall. During the «Mañanera del Pueblo» press conference, chaired by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the Secretary of SICT, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, confirmed that communication has been successfully restored to 161 previously isolated localities. This achievement saw the number of cut-off communities across Hidalgo, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, and Veracruz drop from 288 to 127 between Tuesday, 14th, and Friday, 17th October.

Mr Esteva Medina provided a detailed account of the federal response to the widespread infrastructure damage, noting a total of 461 incidents recorded on both the State Road Network and Feeder Roads. To date, 206 of these incidents have been successfully addressed, utilising 370 pieces of heavy machinery and the efforts of 685 workers across 112 active work fronts. Furthermore, he specified that the substantial work of debris removal and essential clearing operations is supported by 375 machines and a large-scale workforce of 4,500 personnel.

The Secretary stressed that this extensive effort is maintained through coordinated work with the Ministries of Defence and Navy, which have dedicated 323 machines and 4,756 personnel on the ground. Focusing on the worst-hit states, the number of isolated communities in Hidalgo decreased from 84 to 77, following the crucial reopening of 131 roads. Meanwhile, in Puebla, the figure fell from 21 to 13 isolated localities, with nine key roads successfully cleared and opened within the three-day operational period, reflecting the rapid pace of restoration.
