#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The Government of Mexico, through the Secretariat of Welfare, has reported significant progress in providing aid to those affected by the extraordinary rainfall that struck early in October across Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, and Querétaro. A total of 70,256 people have already received a first grant of 20,000 pesos, which is vital for their recovery. Additionally, two vouchers for groceries and one for household goods were distributed, emphasising the priority placed on the welfare of the impacted families.
The Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel Reyes, provided details on the progress of the Welfare Census, a key tool for sizing the necessary aid, which has already registered 103,245 homes across 119 municipalities. This effort, carried out by ‘servants of the nation’, will ensure the fair and effective distribution of resources, as the President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, stated during her «Las mañaneras del pueblo» conference. The Head of State confirmed that the Secretariat of National Defence retains a considerable reserve of household goods, but the decision to purchase more will depend upon the final results of the census.
Regarding connectivity, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, reported a notable recovery, with 415 roads of the State Network and Feeder Roads now clear. Thanks to the coordinated work of 17,728 personnel and the use of 1,255 machines, communication has been restored in 220 out of 288 localities that suffered disruption. It is a relief to confirm that the states of Puebla, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí no longer report isolated communities, marking a milestone in the infrastructure response.
The comprehensive emergency response has mobilised 53,394 public servants from various agencies to ensure a swift return to normality, achieving a 100 per cent restoration of electricity supply by the CFE. Efforts have also focused on educational recovery, with 1,277 affected schools already addressed, representing an 87 per cent advancement, whilst 413,965 grocery packages have been distributed and 463,682 vaccines administered, actions that underline the solidarity commitment to the population.
