In Atizapán, State of Mexico, Fabián Gómez reminds the citizens, «A policeman is a human being with a family and needs» / @Pedro_RVillegas @GobAtizapan
#AtizapánDeZaragoza, #StateOfMexico.- The Government of Atizapán de Zaragoza, led by Municipal President Pedro Rodríguez Villegas, has successfully implemented a robust and precise security strategy, placing citizens’ peace of mind at the centre of its actions. To achieve this, the Directorate of Public Security and Traffic has undergone a profound process of renewal and strengthening, aiming to enhance the professionalism of the service provided to every Atizapán resident. This vision of effective and timely public service forms the foundation for the municipal force’s fundamental transformation.
During the unveiling of his book (Public Security with Intelligence-Based Strategies), the Navy Lieutenant and Director of Public Security and Traffic, Fabián Ricardo Gómez Calcáneo, highlighted the three key pillars of his administration. He stressed that the Mayor’s political will, the professionalisation of officers, and the dignification of the police are essential to success. He asserted, (“the policeman is not an animal; he is a human being with a family and needs; we must remember that the policeman also wants to be with his family”).
Commissioner Gómez Calcáneo was adamant that the reconstruction of police forces, historically associated with corruption, is entirely achievable. He explained that his book is intended as a tool to drive the transformation of public security, emphasising the importance of the Navy’s values. He celebrated, (“this has been my work, and I am delighted that the values of the Mexican Navy – honour, duty, loyalty, and patriotism – are reflected in this strategy”). He added with conviction, (“I am convinced that a city can be changed through its localities”).

In this regard, Mayor Pedro Rodríguez Villegas clarified that the changes have been significant, detailing the dismissal of (“more than 600 officers from the corporation, out of a total of 1,346 agents”) who failed to adapt to the new approach. He underlined that only those committed to the vision of a new police force have remained. He expressed, (“we have transformed the mindset, and today, I celebrate their work with great pride. I am very proud of each and every one of them, because we are a committed team”), before the staff and attendees.
The book presentation ceremony became an act of recognition for the efforts and tangible results achieved in public security. Several political figures, including Senator Enrique Vargas, Congresswoman Ivonne Ortega, and Local Deputy Mariano Camacho San Martín, joined Mayor Pedro Rodríguez Villegas in publicly acknowledging Commissioner Fabián Ricardo Gómez Calcáneo. His strategy based on intelligence and the humanisation of policing has been hailed as a successful model in the region.
