In CDMX, Benito Juárez Council Strengthens Civil Protection with Enhanced Risk Atlas / @LuisMendozaBJ @BJAlcaldia

#AlcaldíaBenitoJuárez#México.- The Benito Juárez Council has successfully signed a coordination agreement with the Mexico City Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (Myriam Urzúa, Head of the Secretariat). This agreement crucially enhances the borough’s Risk Atlas, which now features 17 layers of information, up from four previously. This transformation makes the Atlas an essential tool for preventative planning, safeguarding the lives and assets of local residents by establishing clear protocols for emergency contingencies.

The signing ceremony took place during the First Ordinary Session of the Council of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, where Mayor Luis Mendoza affirmed that Civil Protection is a top priority for his administration. He publicly praised the dedication of Civil Protection personnel, stating: «The Civil Protection staff in every council and in Mexico City are committed people, individuals who act out of conviction, and that is priceless.» He added that beyond the sirens, one hears «loyalty, commitment, comradeship» and the tight-knit Civil Protection family.

Mayor Mendoza highlighted the historic £1.4 million investment (33 million pesos) the current administration has allocated to the Civil Protection area, financing the purchase of 16 state-of-the-art units. These acquisitions include eight first-response urban rescue units and eight ambulances, notably featuring a dedicated intensive care unit vehicle – the only one of its kind in Mexico City – providing free service to those in need. This commitment underscores a proactive approach to emergency response capability.

The head of the capital’s Civil Protection, Myriam Urzúa, acknowledged the significant progress made by the council and celebrated the strong inter-institutional coordination for the benefit of residents. Chief of Staff Bernardo Lartigue emphasised the philosophy behind the effort: «Human security is not imposed by authority; it is built on confidence, planning, and results.» He concluded that every action, from training to drills and quick response, is an investment in «social welfare» and proof of a present, prepared, and «human» government.
