#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- In the city of Tepic, Nayarit, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led an act of social justice by delivering 510 property deeds and balance reduction certificates to families benefiting from the Housing for Wellbeing programme (Vivienda para el Bienestar). The initiative provides genuine relief for workers who, for years, struggled with unpayable mortgage loans rooted in the neoliberal era, a situation now being reversed through the Fourth Transformation (Cuarta Transformación) of public life. The Head of State emphasised that this scheme ensures the value of a home will never exceed the original loan amount, thereby safeguarding the right to decent housing as a cornerstone of social justice.
During her address, President Sheinbaum reflected on the deeper meaning of this policy, stating: «Today, we are delivering this major discount as an act of justice, because we understand justice in its broadest sense: justice for workers, social justice, labour justice, environmental justice, and a real justice system that truly works for everyone, after so many years of serving only a few.» With this humanist vision, the President reaffirmed her government’s commitment to placing the wellbeing of families at the heart of public policy, distancing itself from the exclusionary financial practices of the past.
At the national level, the programme will benefit five million Infonavit members, who will receive loan cancellations and balance write-offs that promise to transform their quality of life and provide a new financial beginning. In Nayarit, the ceremony formalised the handover of 146 deeds corresponding to cleared Infonavit debts, alongside 107 from Fovissste and 257 from INSUS, institutions working together to strengthen family wellbeing and financial security across Mexico. This collaborative effort exemplifies the State’s renewed social commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of its citizens.
Secretary Edna Elena Vega Rangel commended the leadership and foresight of President Sheinbaum, recognising her as the author and architect of the Housing for Wellbeing programme, which she described as a strategic pillar of national social policy. In Nayarit, the initiative aims to provide 23,000 loans and 9,000 deeds, benefiting more than 82,000 people and generating over 13,500 direct and indirect jobs in the construction and related sectors. This comprehensive plan demonstrates a housing policy rooted in justice, equality, and social progress.
Furthermore, Octavio Romero Oropeza, Director General of Infonavit, reported that the 146 mortgage releases are in addition to the 5,810 housing loans previously granted in the region, representing an investment of 2.9 billion pesos. As part of a broader drive for Nayarit’s development, President Sheinbaum announced the opening of the Tepic–Compostela highway and the launch of new infrastructure projects, including the construction of a coastal bridge between Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta and the Tepic rail overpass, both designed to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
