#CuartaTransformación #Sheinbaum In a ceremony marking the eighth anniversary of the national transformation, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo signed a decree that integrates the National Institute of Historical Studies of the Revolutions of Mexico into the academic structure of the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti), thereby establishing it as a dedicated centre for research and teaching that will offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, diplomas and continuous seminars to professionalise the study of the nation’s revolutionary history.
The reform, announced at the morning conference, seeks to align curricular programmes with targeted research lines that connect historical inquiry to public policy; it aims to cultivate specialists able to examine social transformation with analytical rigour, reinforcing higher education as a right and knowledge as a public good.
Recent reports from official outlets indicate that, alongside this institutional reorganisation, the administration has opened 200 positions for national research institutes, an initiative described as unprecedented in more than a decade; those accounts also highlight the role of Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez in presenting the project and stress the intention to preserve collective memory as shared heritage and to uphold history as «moral barrier» against exclusionary rhetoric.
The new status of the National Institute of Historical Studies of the Revolutions of Mexico presents an academic and civic challenge: to consolidate plural spaces for reflection, to train critical generations, and to defend the transformative power of knowledge in service of a more inclusive democracy.
